It’s a Busy Day at the International Astronautical Congress; Fortunately, NASA’s Streaming All of the Happenings!

Today is the third day of the 2019 International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Washington, D.C. Though the IAC is a closed event (until Friday), the NASA live stream has been broadcasting many key events. The congress joins professionals and officials from dozens of aerospace manufacturers and government space organizations. For example, aerospace giant Lockheed-Martin organized and hosted this year’s event. Representatives from the other major players also make a point to attend—SpaceX, Boeing, Virgin Orbit, and Blue Origin all have delegations, in fact.

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine and Vice President Mike Pence kicked off the congress on Monday with opening remarks. There was some backlash from over 200 participants over Pence’s invitation to speak due to political concerns. Ultimately, however, the Vice President gave his speech at the invitation of the IAC, who cited his critical role in U.S. Space Policy as reason enough for his attendance.

Here’s what’s going on today:

As I mentioned earlier, there’s a lot going on today, and NASA’s streaming most of it. Take a look at the schedule below for details on when each broadcast will begin (or did begin).

Today’s Events:

  • Heads of Emerging Agencies (begins at 8:30 am EDT)
  • Clipper Exploring Europa (begins at 1:30 pm EDT)
  • NASA STEM Presents “Space & STEM: Where Do You Fit In?” Engage with NASA leadership, astronauts and a panel of young professionals who will share their NASA journeys, their work on Artemis and how students can get involved in NASA’s latest mission (begins at 6:30 pm EDT)
  • Social media sessions planned from 2 to 3 pm (EDT) on Reddit’s AMA thread.

Any of these is worth the watch if you’re interested in the current status of space exploration. This is the place where all of the new big ideas are discussed and new groundbreaking technologies are explored. First, Emerging Agencies promises to be good because of the amazing work of newcomers like India and Israel. Then, Anything having to do with exploring Europa is awesomesauce. Finally, you have a discussion for students on the importance of STEM, which could inspire countless young people to be space explorers soon. Not to mention the Reddit AMA. Those are always great.

If you’re looking to get caught up on all things space exploration, today’s the day. Our NASA Live Stream is the next best thing to actually being there. Enjoy!
