Three Companies You’ve Probably Never Heard Of Are Becoming Private Moon Lander Partners With NASA.

If it seems like there’s a new development in the Artemis program every week, that’s probably because there is—more or less. NASA has just over four years to send the first woman (and next man) to the Moon. And they aren’t wasting time. Almost immediately after the Trump administration demanded expedited deadline (four years shorter than the previous one) NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine got to work. First He replaced William Gerstenmaeir—longtime head of human spaceflight at NASA. Then, he publically called out companies like SpaceX and others for not working fast enough to meet the administration’s demands. Amid all of the chaos this shortened deadline has brought, however, some focus appears as well. A torrent of opportunities exists for space startups and smaller firms surrounding Artemis. Any small company hoping to build a private moon lander or even just parts for one should love that.

Apart from components, NASA selected three lesser-known space-tech companies to build the first generation of private moon landers. In fact, Astrobotic, Intuitive Machines, and Orbit Beyond will each design and build a lander that will work to ferry science and tech payloads in preliminary uncrewed missions.

NASA scheduled a press conference for 4:30 pm EST today to announce the partnership.
