Marcon Plans New Military Command and Renaming of France’s Air Force

France isn’t the first or only country to make wine – they just make wine better than most. They’re not the first or only country to make pastries and cheese – they just make them better than most. So, is it any surprise that when Emmanuel Marcon announced the creation of a French Space Force, he did it much better than we did?

You, of course, can read my thoughts on President Beeblebrox’s announcement here, but here’s a rundown of what Marcon did right and Trump did wrong when it comes to the idea of a Space Force.

First, Understand Your Military

The point of my earlier Space Force article was that Trump doesn’t even understand the most basic functions of the tools at his disposal. The U.S. Air Force has been protecting 70% of the objects that float in orbit for over half a century. For the Commander in Chief to insist that the best way forward is not to build on that already existing (and, by the way, excellent) infrastructure, but rather to create a whole new “separate but equal” branch of the military is at least the 4,578th stupidest thing he’s done since he took office.

Marcon, on the other hand, did it right. He made the case for why France needs to protect its assets – anti-satellite missiles being developed. Then he said that the French would create a Space Command within its already existing air force and that they would re-name it appropriately.

Second, Understand Your History

Okay, so I don’t speak French, and I didn’t see the entire announcement, but I did look at several sources while resourcing this and none of them mentioned Marcon for embarrassing his country. This leads me to believe that he didn’t say anything skating the lines of racism, or harkening back to the good ol’ days when the French routed the indigenous peoples of every colony they had. He was collected, articulate, and professional, and his plan seems to be pragmatic. In other words, Marcon is a statesman, not a muppet. Marcon’s plan seem’s well-thought-out and pragmatic, not thrown together at the last minute. Marcon made his speech at an event honoring his country’s military on one of his country’s most important holidays. He didn’t blunder his way through the speech, wondering where his generals were.

We should be so lucky.
