Storm Area 51: Today’s the Day We Finally See Them Aliens! Er, Probably Not.

Well, the festivals in the Nevada desert this weekend are on and raging. In towns like Rachel and Hiko, alien enthusiasts are gathered to celebrate their culture and buy little green men in snowglobes. Some others, however, have—as predicted—decided to storm Area 51. I mean, if you call about 75 people a storm. According to The Independent, that’s how many gathered before being ultimately turned away by the significant security measures surrounding the site—including heavily armed and armored guards.

Here’s a live-stream that was posted earlier today on YouTube by LGD Station. It’s an 8 hour video, but if you jump around you can get a sense for what was happening in rural southern Nevada this morning.

Wait, What about Twitter?

Don’t worry. Daddy’s got you. I scrolled through and found some of my favorite tweets about the event to share with you. After all, it’s Friday, and we should all have a little fun today.

Here’s one from @bigsav12 showing the “storm:”

Surreal, indeed, Big Sav. I saw more interesting things at Phish weekend at the Gorge last summer.

Next, this one from @morse_jordyn:

I couldn’t agree more, Morse.

The quote in the middle of this one is great:

“It takes all kinds of all kinds.” It certainly does. God I love humanity!

Then there’s this one from @elgatitosequici:

Note the Blackhawk in the sky. Have no doubt that single helicopter could have wiped out that entire crowd.

Finally, this one from @elyssaoneal is just Millenial gold!

Well said, Dad. Well said.

  1. Looks like one of those scenes from a zombie movie. You know where everyone’s trying to escape but they gotta go through that “military checkpoint” with a tank in the background.
