Netflix is Sure to Strike Comedy Gold Again with Steve Carell’s “Space Force” Series!

Netflix made some big announcements today regarding Steve Carell’s “Space Force” show. First, they said that they’ll premier it on May 29th. Then they announced that Lisa Kudrow (“Friends”) would co-star in the series. Prior to those announcements, pretty much the only thing we knew was that the show would feature Carell, that it would be about the Space Force, and that Greg Daniels (“The Office”) is on board. Barring that, the only thing Netflix gave us was this trailer:

Is This Netflix’s Version of “The Office?”

Of course not, you rubes. You can’t have “The Office” without Dwight or Jim, and as far as I can tell, neither Riann Wilson nor John Krasinski have signed on. As I mentioned before, though, Netflix announced that Lisa Kudrow would join the cast. As if that weren’t enough, Steve Carell’s “Space Force” cast also includes John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz (“Parks and Recreation”) and Noa Emmerich (“The Americans”).

According to Netflix, “Space Force” follows “a decorated pilot with dreams of running the Air Force, four-star general Mark R. Naird (Steve Carell) is thrown for a loop when he finds himself tapped to lead the newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces: Space Force.”

The description continues, “Skeptical but dedicated, Mark uproots his family and moves to a remote base in Colorado where he and a colorful team of scientists and ‘Spacemen’ are tasked by the White House with getting American boots on the moon (again) in a hurry and achieving total space dominance.”

Obviously Daniels and Carell make magic when they work together. “The Office” still ranks among the most popular sitcoms of all time. And with a cast like this at their disposal, Steve Carell’s “Space Force” series looks to be comedy gold.
