That’s Right, the Space Cookies Baked By ISS Astronauts are Back Home on Earth!

This holiday season, the astronauts aboard the ISS prepared a treat for some lucky earth-bound humans. That’s because back in November, a Northrop Grumman Cygnus spacecraft dropped off a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough. As part of an experiment, DoubleTree, the hotel chain, provided the dough, along with a Zero G oven. And yes. A Zero G oven bakes stuff in microgravity. You nailed it. Once the supplies were aboard, astronauts baked the dough one cookie at a time. The batch of dough was enough for five space cookies, and now they’re back on Earth thanks to a SpaceX Dragon capsule.

Officials from DoubleTree Offer Space Cookie Details

Officials at DoubleTree spoke with journalists regarding the space cookies. In fact, they were quite proud to be able to say they helped bake the first batch of cookies in space. They are, however, being cautious until they’re sure the cookies are safe. According to a statement released to journalists, the reps said, “Once we have confirmed that the cookies have indeed arrived home, we’ll share full details, as well as a video and photos of the cookies being baked on the ISS.” Of course, you’d better believe that we’ll cover that as soon as it comes across the wire.

That’s right. We’ll cover this story because there are so many important unanswered questions. Prior to the dough’s arrival, a lot of people were wondering if the space station would smell like cookies. They also wondered what shape the cookies would be. How soft or fluffy would they be? I mean, we need these answers, folks! After all, if we can’t bake cookies in space, then who the hell even wants to go there?
