Fanboys, Fangirls, and Fans Beyond the Binary Rejoice as We Get a Longer Look at Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Amid the flurry of Star Wars related announcements at last weened’s D23 conference, the company that bought and (arguably) saved Lucasfilm, LTD released a new trailer for Star Wars – Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. Now I know that I go off a lot on Star Wars fans. We’re always hardest on ourselves, after all. However, we’re just going to focus on how effing awesome this trailer looks for meow, mmkay…

Here it is:

See What I Mean?

If you’re a fan of the franchise, I don’t think you could not be turned on by that. Let’s break it down, shall we?

Darkness, and a single piano note signals the emergence of Luke’s Theme and the twin suns setting over the dunes of Tattoine. A young farm boy who thinks he has no future looks to the horizon and longs for something more. We see his mentor, Obi-Wan and the Millenium Falcon soaring past Yavin. There’s a classic shot of a young, strong female hero with a blaster in her hands, and, of course, a rogue smuggler about to shoot first. Then there’s the celebration after the battle of Yavin.

We see the wrath of the dreaded Galactic Empire, a hornet’s nest of AT-ATs, TIE fighters and Star Destroyers now disturbed. Then there’s frustrated Sith Lord who turns to despicable bounty hunters to accomplish what his best troops cant. There’s the best love scene in cinematic history, that happens to take place while a Wookie howls in the background.

We’re reminded of the revelation of a father to his son, and the choice the son must make. The glory and heroes of the battle of Endor appear, as does the sage teacher. Then there’s a nod to the history of a thousand generations of Jedi, along with the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker. And that’s just the first half.

The Saga of This Generation Comes to a Close

After that, we’re shown a new generation of hero, fighting all over some epic scenery to understand her place in the universe, and her Force-driven destiny. Even though I live at the wrong latitude to be making such statements, December, and the release of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker,  can’t get here fast enough for me.
