NASA’s Galaxy of Horrors Trailer Gets into the Halloween Spirit!

Our Finest Space Scientists Are Embracing Halloween with NASA’s Galaxy of Horrors Trailer!

What frightens you most? Is it a ghost? Perhaps it’s a ghoul who makes you feel like a fool. Monsters and vampires, spiders and bats. These are but a few bad omens, like black cats. Could it be the slasher? Or the brutish skull basher? Freddy Kruger lurking under your bed? It shouldn’t be these that cause your unease. But real cosmic horrors, instead. Yes! Aye! The time is nigh, but not like the Science Guy. Rather it’s coming on fall. A time of decay and fading away and the costumed festival ball. And to this frightful season, it just stands to reason that NASA’s got terror for all. In the festive spirit, for those who might fear it, they’ve made something just for the wailers. So with no more ado, Space Porn has for you NASA’s Galaxy of Horrors trailer:

Wasn’t that just about the most awesome thing you’ve seen all week?

NASA made this trailer to promote a new poster series designed to get people interested in the amazingly creepy and fascinating world of exoplanets.

Thalia Rivera, an outreach specialist at JPL, led the development of the new poster series

“People are often most interested in finding exoplanets that could resemble Earth or potentially support life as we know it,” she said. “But there are so many other amazing, mystifying planets out there that are completely unlike Earth and that show us the huge variety of ways planets can form and evolve. My favorite thing about exoplanets is how extreme they can get!”

The first poster, seen above, outlines the exoplanet HD 189733 b, which features grains of silicon speeding by faster than bullet speed on the winds throughout its atmosphere! Ever seen a sandblaster work? Imagine it on eleven and being pointed straight at you.

The next one is my favorite. Zombie planets and radioactive zombie stars! Who could ask for more? Welcome to the PSR B1257+12 pulsar system!

This particular galactic hell features Poltergeist, Draugr and Phobetor. Each of those planets orbits a zombie pulsar star that spews out ridiculous cosmic radiation. Enough to decimate any life that would dare try to exist there.

The Only Thing Lacking…

NASA did such a great job with these posters and the trailer that I have a hard time finding anything to criticize. Except for the names. HD 189733 b should be officially renamed “Glass Hell,” and PSR B1257+12 should be called “The Spinning Dead” system. What would you name them? Let me know in the comments, or on our Discord server!

Have a Happy Halloween tomorrow!
