A Little Amazon Prime and Spacey Time!

Share

In this time of quarantine and streaming madness, if you’ve got Amazon Prime, here are the space movies you should be watching!

Most of us started our shelter-in-place living around six weeks ago. Right as spring was coming into its own. There’s not much that hasn’t already been written about the effect the Coronavirus pandemic has had on our economy, our society, and our own psychology. The situation sucks. Plain and simple. That said, thank Al Gore, we have the internet and Amazon Prime. If I had to rely on cable/satellite to entertain me I might have already started eating my own arm off. After all, there’s only so many American Pickers marathons a guy can take.

But we do have the internet. And that means we can subscribe to Netflix and Hulu and Amazon Prime and all kinds of other streaming services. So, no, space nerds. We mustn’t sit and watch Mike and Frank pull old bicycles out of garages for 10 hours a day. We have a plethora of great space entertainment at our fingertips.

Today We’ll Focus on Amazon Prime.

The Best Space Movies on Amazon Prime Right Now

1. Starship Troopers

If you’ve never seen this movie, I weep for you. Once I’ve dried my tears, I will then implore you to watch it post haste. Based on the novel by Robert A Heinlein, it features epic battle scenes, high-concept satirical commentary, and Neil Patrick Harris. Director Paul Verhoeven creates a vivid picture of the future in which the global government wages all out interstellar war on a bunch of intelligent alien bugs.

2. Super 8

One of JJ Abrams first movies, and arguably his best, Super 8 captures the fun of movies like The Goonies, ET, and Raiders of the Lost Arc. It also delivers a compelling story about some adolescents who find an alien while filming a home movie in 1979. The cast is superb, and the storyline captures the imagination. Definitely worth a watch, or a re-watch.

3. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

If you don’t already know that this is the best Star Trek movie of all time, then you must not even know what Star Trek is. This film classic, pure and simple. Captain James Tiberius Kirk and co face their most deadly enemy of all time, Khan. A super-human, genetically engineered badass that brings the USS Enterprise and her entire crew to their knees. If you haven’t seen it, watch immediately. If you have, watch it again. You won’t be disappointed.

4. Thor

I have been pretty vocal about how much I dislike the MCU movies. This one’s an exception, though. Maybe it’s just because I hadn’t been exposed to 21 other movies that all of my friends told me I have to watch yet. Whatever it is, though, I enjoyed the first Thor. And you can stream it with your Prime Video membership.

5. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

Again, Star Trek II is the best of all the original generation movies. Many Trekkies observe that the even movies are the best. So Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home also gets an honorable mention, but The Undiscovered Country is my next best choice after the second movie.

So There You Have It: Five Great Space Movies on Amazon Prime

Each of these movies is worth your time to watch—especially if you’re stuck at home all day with nothing else to do. Of course, there’s plenty of space content on the other streaming services, too, and we’ll get to them soon enough. Until then, enjoy these five!
